Works for violin & keyboard
DUO ING (Ying Xue, violin & Qing Jiang, piano)
Join us for this brief Monday evening concert (roughly 1 hr.) at the beautiful and intimate Tenri Center. An intense and lyrical program of contemporary violin music, three recent pieces are placed in the context of Debussy's masterful Violin Sonata, the composer's final completed composition, which stands as a hallmark of his mature style and a pillar of early musical modernism that would follow throughout the 20th Century.
Program:
Sean Shepherd: Dust (2008-09)
Daniel Temkin: Candlelight/Darkness (2012)
Eric Nathan: DUO (2013) **NYC Premiere**
Claude Debussy: Violin Sonata (1917)
Special Thanks:
This program is supported by the Yellow Barn Festival's Artist Residency Program (Putney, VT), and an expanded version of the concert is performed there on February 23, also including Tonia Ko's "Still Life Crumbles" and Bach's suites - both written for violin & harpsichord. (Due to logistical limitations, we cannot repeat the harpsichord works at the Tenri show, and are sorry not to be able to include Tonia's masterful work on this event!)
